Three prominent Marcoses duly elected as senator, governor and congresswoman respectively, will be working under the 2nd Aquino presidency. This year marks a comeback for the Marcoses despite past animosity between the two political families.
Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., son of former president Ferdinand Marcos, won a seat in the Senate last May 10 polls. He has earlier expressed willingness to work with President Noynoy Aquino and his administration.
Imee Marcos, daughter of the late strongman Marcos and three-term Congresswoman of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte, is now governor of Ilocos Norte. She won by a landslide victory against former Gov. Michael Marcos Keon.
Imelda Marcos, the mother of Bongbong and Imee, widow of Pres. Marcos, former first lady, and herself a legendary political figure, is now Representative of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte.
The political rivalry between the Aquino and Marcos families could be traced back to the days when former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr., the father of PNoy, led the opposition against former dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Ninoy was jailed, tortured then assassinated under the Marcos presidency. Ninoy's widow and PNoy's mother, Corazon Aquino, ascended to the presidency which ended Marcos' 20-year rule.
